Softball Game Preview: Port Clinton Redskins vs. Northwood Rangers

The Port Clinton Redskins will challenge the Northwood Rangers at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Port Clinton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Port Clinton will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Willard on Tuesday. The Redskins put the hurt on the Crimson Flashes with a sharp 20-4 victory. The Redskins haven't had any issues with the Crimson Flashes recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Ashton Sanchez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Port Clinton got a massive performance out of Jae Mazur, who went 3-for-4 with five runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Mazur a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabby Howard, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Port Clinton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Willard only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Northwood narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Delta 4-3.

Northwood is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Port Clinton, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
