Football Recap: Winchester Community Runs Past Centerville

Winchester Community's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 28-19 win over the Centerville Bulldogs. This was payback for the Golden Falcons, who suffered a 21-7 loss the last time these two teams met.

Winchester Community had a senior duo take command as Caleb Hummel rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown and Aidan Weatherhead rushed for 128 yards and one TD. Weatherhead also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending two passes.

Winchester Community was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centerville only rushed for 38 rushing yards.

Winchester Community's defense made their presence known, laying out Jace Hollendonner. three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kolten Wynn, Jose Vasquez, and McCormac Anderson, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shea Hollendonner, who picked up 111 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Jace was another key signal caller, throwing for 265 yards and three TDs.

Winchester Community pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.7 points on average over those games. As for Centerville, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 3-1.

Coming up, Winchester Community will face off against Union County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Falcons will be up against the Patriots' rather soft defense (which has allowed 43.25 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Centerville, they will square off against Tri at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
