Football Recap: Burbank Comes Up Short

Burbank extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were beaten by the Medina Valley Panthers 70-21. The Bulldogs lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 21-19 score last time.

Burbank's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Edward Rodriguez, who rushed for 63 yards and one score. Kaleb Perez also helped out with an impressive 82 receiving yards.

As for Medina Valley, the victory got them back to even at 2-2. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Xavier Gonzalez had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 156 yards and three TDs on only ten carries, while also throwing for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns on perfect 5-for-5 passing. Those 144 passing yards gave him a new career-high.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burbank will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Medina Valley, they will venture away from home to square off against Eagle Pass at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Panthers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
