Basketball Recap: Blake Rooks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grand Junction Central over Berthoud

Grand Junction Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Berthoud Spartans, falling 70-50.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Blake Rooks, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Fromang, who posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Grand Junction Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Berthoud's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan Callies, who went 9 of 20 on his way to 25 points in addition to seven assists and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Weston Peatrowsky, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.

Grand Junction Central's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Berthoud, they moved to 1-4 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Grand Junction Central and Montezuma-Cortez will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Montezuma-Cortez will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Grand Junction Central surely won't give up without a fight. Berthoud will take on Severance in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Berthoud has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
