Softball Recap: Deep Run Finds Home Field Redemption Against Freeman

There's no place like home for Deep Run, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top against the Freeman Mavericks by a score of 7-4 on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Hope Tate was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Braelyn Baulsir and Brooke Black did most of the damage at the plate: Baulsir went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Black got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one triple. That's the most RBI Baulsir has posted since back in March. Sadie Hutchens was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Deep Run's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Freeman, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Deep Run will host Godwin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Freeman, they are taking a road trip to challenge J.R. Tucker at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Mavericks surely won't give up without a fight.
