Preview: Monroe Trojans vs. Riverview Pirates
Monroe is 0-2 against Riverview since October of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Monroe Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Riverview Pirates at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Monroe has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Riverview will arrive with six straight victories.
Last Friday, Monroe was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 21-15 to Bedford.
Meanwhile, Riverview humbled Grosse Ile with a 54-7 victory. The result was nothing new for Riverview, who have now won six games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Nathan Pinkava continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 169 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Adams, who rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Riverview, their win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-1.
Monroe suffered a grim 49-27 defeat to Riverview in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Monroe, Jacob Shank (who rushed for 180 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
