Baseball Game Preview: East Surry Cardinals vs. Mount Tabor Spartans

The East Surry Cardinals will take on the Mount Tabor Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. East Surry will be strutting in after a victory while Mount Tabor will be coming in after a loss.

East Surry will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against North Wilkes on Friday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Vikings.

Meanwhile, Mount Tabor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 15-5 to East Forsyth.

David Thiel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Another player making a difference was Will Koonin, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

East Surry is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Mount Tabor, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Everything went East Surry's way against Mount Tabor in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, as East Surry made off with a 13-3 victory. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
