Basketball Recap: East Tigers vs. Linden-McKinley Panthers

The East Tigers entered their tilt with the Linden-McKinley Panthers with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. East walked away with a 57-48 victory over the Panthers on Friday. For East, this counts as revenge for the 54-29 loss the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Kaliyah Barron continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of East's points. Another player making a difference was Yanni Smith, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christiana Towns, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamiya Harrington, who scored 15 points along with five steals.

East pushed their record up to 9-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Linden-McKinley, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East will take on the Cougar at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cristo Rey comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last eight games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Linden-McKinley, they will be playing at home against the Stars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Averaging 63.07 points so far this season, Centennial's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Panthers better be ready for a challenge.
