Softball Game Preview: Dexter Tigers vs. Central Red Devils

The Dexter Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Central Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Dexter's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Dexter nor Orono made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Tigers came out on top against the Riots by a score of 6-2. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Riots on their field since May 30, 2019.

Claire Fogler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Dexter saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abagail Trafton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that Trafton has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Central got the win against Bangor Christian on Friday by a conclusive 16-8. The victory continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won nine in a row.

The win made it two in a row for Dexter and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Central, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Everything went Dexter's way against Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Dexter made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
