Baseball Game Preview: Trousdale County Yellowjackets vs. Westmoreland Eagles

Trousdale County is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will head out to square off against the Westmoreland Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Trousdale County has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Trousdale County came up short against Macon County on Friday, falling 11-1. The Yellowjackets have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Westmoreland had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 19-5 win. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

Westmoreland got a massive performance out of Grant Lilly, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Lilly a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Carter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

Westmoreland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Westmoreland's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Trousdale County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Trousdale County suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Westmoreland in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Trousdale County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
