Baseball Game Preview: Morgantown Mohigans vs. Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers

Morgantown has gone a perfect 10-0 against Buckhannon-Upshur recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mohigans will head out on the road to take on the Buccaneers at 5:00 p.m. Morgantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Morgantown beat Brooke 5-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mohigans.

Vincent Aloi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 matches.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Bowers, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Morgantown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Ryan Nipper was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Buckhannon-Upshur was able to grind out a solid win over Grafton on Monday, taking the game 7-4. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won three in a row.

Morgantown pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, their record now sits at 8-6.

Morgantown beat Buckhannon-Upshur 9-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mohigans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
