Basketball Recap: Ruston Falls Short Against Ranked Alexandria

On Friday, Ruston faced Alexandria in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Ruston Bearcats fell to the Alexandria Trojans 49-44. The Bearcats were up 30-14 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Alexandria's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyshawn Duncan, who went 7 for 14 to rack up 17 points in addition to five boards and four blocks. Duncan has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Johnson, who posted 18 points and five rebounds.

Ruston's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-5. As for Alexandria, they pushed their record up to 25-6 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Ouachita Parish the next time they take the court. Ruston will head out to face Ouachita Parish at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Alexandria will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
