Baseball Recap: Highland Gets the Win

Highland and Bath County pushed the score to 16-6 the last time they played Bath County, but on Tuesday defenses reigned supreme. The Rams narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Chargers 3-1. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

John Wagner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Patton Hull, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Highland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Good, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Highland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bath County only posted a batting average of .045.

Highland's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Bath County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.

As of now, neither Highland nor the Chargers have any future games scheduled.
