Softball Game Preview: Crystal City Javelinas vs. Lytle Pirates

Crystal City is 0-10 against Lytle since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Crystal City Javelinas are taking a road trip to take on the Lytle Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Crystal City has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Crystal City came up short against La Pryor on Tuesday, falling 17-2.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lytle). Everything went their way against Comfort on Monday as Lytle made off with a 23-8 victory. Considering the Pirates have won five matchups by more than 13 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Lytle let Giselle Esparza and NAYELLI PACHECO run wild. Esparza went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and five RBI, while PACHECO scored five runs and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits Esparza has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anissa Perez, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Lytle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Lytle's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6-1. As for Crystal City, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Crystal City suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Lytle in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Crystal City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
