Baseball Game Preview: Collingswood Panthers vs. Holy Cross Lancers

The Collingswood Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Holy Cross Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Collingswood will be strutting in after a win while Holy Cross will be coming in after a defeat.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Friday. Collingswood came out on top against Pitman by a score of 8-5.

Jairo Mendoza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Schell, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Chance Shellenberger also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Sterling hit Holy Cross with a four-run fifth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lancers fell just short of the Silver Knights by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Lancers have suffered since April 26, 2024.

Collingswood now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Holy Cross, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

Collingswood came out on top in a nail-biter against Holy Cross when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
