Basketball Recap: Jay County's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Jay County can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Adams Central Flying Jets out 53-50. That's more bragging rights for the Patriots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jay County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Liz Brunswick led the charge by going 10 of 17 en route to 21 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hallie Schwieterman, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 assists.

Jay County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 30 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Adams Central still got an impressive performance from Kate Fisher, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 22 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. That was a full 44% of Adams Central's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Stafford, who had 15 points and five rebounds.

Jay County's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Adams Central, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Jay County will head out to challenge Blackford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jay County is facing Blackford at the right time seeing as Blackford is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Adams Central, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-39 victory against South Adams on the 14th.
