Basketball Recap: Ce'airah Underwood's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North over Buchtel

North lost against Buchtel back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The North Vikings fell 62-54 to the Buchtel Griffins.

North's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ce'Airah Underwood, who posted 33 points in addition to six rebounds and six blocks. That was a full 61.1% of North's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Armonie Lewis, who put up 18 points along with six boards and four steals.

Buchtel found their leader in sophomore Shaylah Jones, who almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Buchtel's points. Samyia Samuel was another key player, putting up ten points and seven boards.

North has been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 15 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season. As for Buchtel, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15.

North does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Buchtel, they will be taking part in a tournament against Laurel at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Laurel will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Buchtel surely won't give up without a fight.
