Baseball Recap: Excel Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against UMS-Wright Prep, Excel was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Red Level Tigers 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since February 27th.

Excel got a great performance from Guy Burton as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Burton a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trent Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cayden Chandler, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Excel's victory bumped their record up to 18-7. As for Red Level, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Looking ahead, Excel will be playing in front of their home fans against Monroe County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Red Level, they will head out on the road to face off against Elba at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
