Softball Recap: Troy Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Troy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Wellsboro Hornets. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Hornets last Wednesday, they had to take a 9-8 loss.

Erinn Knapp was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over nine innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Knapp was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren Reed, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Haidyn Watson was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

The win got Troy back to even at 4-4. As for Wellsboro, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

Looking ahead, Troy will venture away from home to square off against Midd-West at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Wellsboro, they will host Hughesville at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight.
