Basketball Recap: Yerba Buena's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Yerba Buena had to endure a 17-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They strolled past the San Jose Bulldogs with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 59-45. For the Aztec Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 71-47 win the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Yerba Buena had a senior duo take command as Brandon Tran posted 21 points and Andy Pham earned 16 points. The matchup was Tran's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Thien Nguyen, who scored seven points.

Yerba Buena's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-16. As for San Jose, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Yerba Buena will take on Del Mar at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for San Jose, they will square off against Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hill knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully San Jose likes a good challenge.
