Basketball Game Preview: Maize South Mavericks vs. South Cougars

The Maize South Mavericks will take on the South Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Maize South, who comes in off a win.

Maize South is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 65-35 victory over Goddard. The win was some much needed relief for the Mavericks as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Maize. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Maize South will have to contain Gavin Devoe as he made an impact in South's last game. He went 7 for 12 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds. Those 16 points gave Devoe a new career-high.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Maize South, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 2-5.

Maize South took their win against South in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 76-53. Will Maize South repeat their success, or does South have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
