Softball Recap: Sumner Comes Up Short

Sumner came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Wharton Wildcats, falling 17-3. The Stingrays were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Aliyanis Stubbs made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Victoria Rudolph was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.

Sumner has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Wharton, they moved to 8-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Sumner will welcome Newsome at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Stingrays' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wharton, they will head out on the road to square off against Durant at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
