Baseball Game Preview: Oberlin Phoenix vs. Firelands Falcons

Oberlin hasn't had much luck against Firelands recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Phoenix will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. Oberlin has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Oberlin lost 13-1 to Columbia on Wednesday.

Chris Hanmer made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Meanwhile, Firelands never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Columbia. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since April 11th.

Not much got past Aaron Bower, who gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Columbia off the board.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brayden Alberti, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Firelands pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oberlin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
