Baseball Game Preview: Chavez Titans vs. Tokay Tigers

The Chavez Titans are taking a road trip to take on the Tokay Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Chavez has struggled recently with 14 defeats in a row, while Tokay will arrive with four straight victories.

Chavez lost 16-2 to Bear Creek on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Titans have lost by exactly 14 runs.

Chavez saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Fierros, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Fierros also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Meanwhile, while Tokay put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Central Valley. The Tigers walked away with a 3-0 win over the Hawks.

The result came thanks to Paul Buckley's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Tokay is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brock Sell, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Noah Van Dyke, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Tokay's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chavez, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15.

Chavez took their victory against Tokay when the teams last played back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
