Football Game Preview: South Coffeyville Lions vs. Welch Wildcats

The South Coffeyville Lions will face off against the Welch Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, South Coffeyville put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They put the hurt on Watts with a sharp 46-22 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lions' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to South Coffeyville's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Max Adcock and Emmitt Hills, who racked up all five sacks between them.

Meanwhile, Welch never let their opponents score on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Billings 32-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Wildcats just coasted through the last quarter.

The critical scores for Welch came from Emery Schaper, Joseph Clinton, and Mason Webster.

With the victory, Welch broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4. As for South Coffeyville, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. South Coffeyville has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Welch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

South Coffeyville was dealt a bruising 51-6 loss at the hands of Welch in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Lions, Mason Clinton (who rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 54 yards and one TD) won't be suiting up this time.
