Basketball Recap: Maxwell Piles Up the Points Against Hitchcock County

Maxwell entered their tilt with Hitchcock County on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Hitchcock County Falcons 55-26. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 48-38 win the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2021.

Maxwell got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kristyn Cheek out in front who went 7 for 13 en route to 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Cheek has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emory Christensen, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Maxwell was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hitchcock County only posted three assists.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madysen Carlson, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. That was a full 38.5% of Hitchcock County's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Asia Homma was another key player, putting up seven points.

Maxwell has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Hitchcock County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

Maxwell will face off against Maywood/Hayes Center at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Maywood/Hayes Center is on a five-game streak of home wins, Maxwell a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Hitchcock County, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Hitchcock County Falcons duke it out with the Southern Valley Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on February 4th.
