2A Conference 3 recap September 4, 2013
West Lincoln scaled the state rankings by moving to 231 from 261 this week, the biggest jump in 2A Conference 3. The Rebels were able to make move up by beating North Lincoln 35-27.
Newton-Conover was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Red Devils triumphed over Lexington 50-28.
Maiden's dynamic duo of Jake McRee and Alex White proved tough for West Iredell to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McRee threw for 249 yards and 2 touchdowns and White had 116 yards receiving. Kyle Kelly helped Maiden's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 57 yards.
The Blue Devils' dynamic duo of McRee and White proved to be unstoppable against the Warriors, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Javon McCorkle was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 73 yards on 14 carries as Bandys defeated West Iredell. Teammate Logan Beegle added to the ground attack by rushing for 53 yards.
White was the best wideout in 2A Conference 3 this week as Frank Snider's team defeated Mike Natoli's team.
He went 13-17 with 1 interceptions.
McRee put up the best numbers through the air as the Blue Devils topped the Warriors.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Maiden's McRee and White have proven to be a lethal combination. McRee has thrown for 547 yards this season, while White, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 10 catches for 197 yards. Chaz Surratt from East Lincoln leads the league in rushing with 174 yards.
Lincolnton lost to South Point 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
