There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Part of the action? A towering 101-point combined score for Bellevue West and Omaha North.
Can't Touch This
Lincoln High's 66 - 31 win over Kearney last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Isaiah Alford. Alford rushed for 284 yards and four touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Alford as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between York and Seward, 8th and 14th in the power rankings, respectively. York had just enough, edging out Seward 42 - 40. The win boosted York a satisfying four spots in the power rankings.
Look Out Below
Grand Island is a little down this week -- likely figuratively, certainly literally. The team fell eight spots in the power rankings (the most of any team in the rankings) after its most recent contest. It came up short against Lincoln Southwest, falling 21 - 7. The quarterback felt the defeat most of all -- literally. After eight sacks, he is probably hoping to get a little more protection in the future.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Scottsbluff (10th in the power rankings) and McCook (4th). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Don't be surprised if the score for this one pushes triple digits as McCook and Scottsbluff both racked up points last week.
