Soccer Game Preview: Kearney Catholic vs. Grand Island

The Kearney Catholic Stars will challenge the Grand Island Islanders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grand Island took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Kearney Catholic, who comes in off a win.

Kearney Catholic will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Hastings, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Stars walked away with a 3-1 win over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Kearney Catholic hit Hastings with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Hadley McGowen, Emily Nelson, and Payton Dzingle.

Meanwhile, Grand Island managed to keep up with Columbus until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Islanders came up short against the Discoverers, falling 3-0. Grand Island have struggled against Columbus recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

The victory got Kearney Catholic back to even at 1-1. As for Grand Island, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Kearney Catholic took their win against Grand Island in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the Stars repeat their success, or do the Islanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
