After both having extra time off, the Sierra Timberwolves and the Lathrop Spartans will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last four games Sierra has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

If East Union wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Sierra, they should've done a better job of containing Manolo Asuncion. The Timberwolves skirted past the Lancers 3-2 thanks in part to Asuncion, who had 20 digs and one assist. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 13 or more in each of the last four games he's played.
Sierra took East Union into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-21, 15-13.
Meanwhile, Lathrop got the win against Johansen on Wednesday by a conclusive 3-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Lathrop was: they took every set by at least 11 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-14, 25-9.
Sierra better keep an eye on Jorge Reyes. He was instrumental in Lathrop's win, getting 32 assists and three aces.
Lathrop was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in March.
Lathrop's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-8. As for Sierra, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-12 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's contest: Sierra has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Lathrop struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sierra suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Lathrop in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Timberwolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
