Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Cahokia Comanches

Mt. Vernon is on a 15-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Cahokia is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Having just played yesterday, the Mt. Vernon Rams will get right back to it and host the Cahokia Comanches at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Mt. Vernon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Herrin 71-40. With the Rams ahead 37-17 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Meanwhile, Cahokia can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They snuck past King with a 62-56 win.

Mt. Vernon better keep an eye on C'Narri Griffin. He was instrumental in Cahokia's win, going 7 of 9 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds. That's the most boards Griffin has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Armon Smith, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points.

Cahokia's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Mt. Vernon, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Everything came up roses for Mt. Vernon against Cahokia in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 61-27 victory. Does Mt. Vernon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cahokia turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
