Basketball Recap: Three Straight Road Wins for Sierra Vista

Needles came into Friday's contest looking for another win against Sierra Vista, but Donnayja Gibson wouldn't allow it. The Sierra Vista Mountain Lions walked away with a 64-53 victory over the Needles Mustangs on Friday thanks in part to Gibson, who went 12 of 14 on her way to 33 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Needles lost, don't look at Gianna Collier. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 36 points and 11 boards. That was a full 67.9% of Needles' points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Mills, who had six points.

Sierra Vista's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Needles, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3.

Sierra Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-44 victory against Elko on the 28th. As for Needles, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-30 win against Durango on the 28th.
