Preview: Richmond Blue Devils vs. Marine City Mariners
Richmond is 9-1 against Marine City since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Richmond Blue Devils will be home for the holidays to greet the Marine City Mariners at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Richmond's 22-3 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were beaten by Yale 72-34 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Richmond can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while Yale is ranked 59th).
Meanwhile, Marine City had to suffer through a rough 83-53 loss at the hands of Port Huron. Marine City was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-29.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Liam Adams, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Adams is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Hand, who scored 11 points.
Richmond's loss ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. As for Marine City, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-5.
Everything came up roses for Richmond against Marine City in their previous matchup back in March as the squad secured a 75-33 victory. Does Richmond have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marine City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
