Mercyhurst Prep has gone a perfect 10-0 against Seneca recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Lakers are taking a road trip to face off against the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. Mercyhurst Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Mercyhurst Prep's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Iroquois with a sharp 15-0 win. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Zack Kruszewski, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Tanner Ashton was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mercyhurst Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Iroquois only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, Seneca came up short against Youngsville on Monday and fell 11-7. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Michael Peterson stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Greg Rupp, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Mercyhurst Prep's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Seneca, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
Seneca's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mercyhurst Prep has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Seneca, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Mercyhurst Prep's sizable advantage in that area, the Bobcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mercyhurst Prep took their win against Seneca in their previous matchup on April 10th by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
