Basketball Game Preview: Sun Valley Spartans vs. Weddington Warriors

Sun Valley is 2-8 against Weddington since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sun Valley Spartans will be playing at home against the Weddington Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Sun Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Gray Stone Day to the tune of 75-32 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Spartans have posted since November 20, 2023.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Weddington, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against East Mecklenburg by a score of 56-47 on Tuesday.

Sun Valley better keep an eye on Kj Younger. He was instrumental in Weddington's win, going 7 of 13 en route to 22 points and eight rebounds. Younger's evening made it 17 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Zepp, who posted 13 points.

Weddington was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Mecklenburg only racked up six assists.

Weddington is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Sun Valley, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.

Sun Valley was taken down by Weddington 78-40 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Sun Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
