It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Martin County had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They never let the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won 18 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Erica Sturgill, who gave up just a hit to keep Fairmont off the board.
At the plate, Izzy Williams was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Harmony Hoo, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Martin County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That somehow still isn't as good as their 20-4 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.3 runs. As for Fairmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
Looking ahead, Martin County will square off against Eastern Wayne on Friday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Gators surely won't give up without a fight. Fairmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
