Softball Game Preview: Providence Panthers vs. Charlotte Catholic Cougars

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Providence Panthers duke it out with Charlotte Catholic Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Providence sitting on ten straight victories and Charlotte Catholic on three.

While Providence's win against East Mecklenburg wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Providence came out on top in a nail-biter against East Mecklenburg on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since February 26th.

Averie Jones tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Pheonix Scott was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Emerson McAllister, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Catholic had just enough and edged out Fort Mill 3-2 on Wednesday.

Providence pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.8 runs. As for Charlotte Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Everything went Providence's way against Charlotte Catholic in their previous matchup on March 4th, as Providence made off with a 17-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Providence since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
