Basketball Game Preview: Highland Hawks vs. Apollo Hawks

The Highland Hawks will be playing at home against the Apollo Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Highland is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Corona del Sol: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Highland blew Corona del Sol out of the water with a 74-15 final score. With that victory, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.

Highland's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Emilee Searle, who went 9 of 20 en route to 21 points along with eight boards and eight steals, and Bailey Williams, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven steals and six assists. With that strong performance, Searle is now averaging an impressive 2.8 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Jacobsen, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Apollo made easy work of Centennial on Tuesday and carried off a 41-19 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Hawks have posted against the Coyotes since March 2, 2021.

Apollo's win came from a few key players Highland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Meekah Nunez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Murryah Crump, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Highland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 51 points. As for Apollo, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
