Basketball Recap: Elmira Express vs. Ithaca Little Red
There's no place like home for the Elmira Express, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They secured a 57-52 W over Ithaca on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Elmira, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Elmira found their leader in underclassman Mariah Matias, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 21 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Matias has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Laila Burchard, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.
The victory got Elmira back to even at 8-8. As for Ithaca, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elmira will take on the Patriots at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Binghamton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Ithaca, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Raiders at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Horseheads is coming into the contest hot, having won their last ten games.
