Softball Recap: Flour Bluff Hornets vs. Rivera Raiders

Flour Bluff never let their opponents score on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Rivera Raiders with a sharp 9-0 victory. The Hornets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Raiders, too.

Abigail Bippert made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Bippert was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Addison Mayo was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kenzie O'Brien, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two doubles.

Flour Bluff was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rivera only posted a batting average of .105.

Flour Bluff has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.0 runs this season. As for Rivera, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Flour Bluff will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Carroll at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rivera, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Edcouch-Elsa at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
