There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Among the games was a one-point thriller between Booker T. Washington and Southridge.
Can't Touch This
Key West got a 32 - 15 win over John Carroll Catholic last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Alonzo Ridgeway. Ridgeway ran for 131 yards and also punched in three touchdowns. That performance landed Ridgeway among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Central (3rd in the MaxPreps state rankings) and St. John's (1st) did not disappoint. Central fought the good fight but suffered a stinging 37 - 34 defeat in overtime to St. John's. Despite the outcome, Central can look to its five-sack defensive performance as a definite plus, positive energy it will want to mobilize against Edison.
Movin on Up
Piper brought the heat last game after its low-scoring effort (six points) in the match before. It blew past Boyd Anderson 34 - 7. Junior James Ferriero jr. deserves a lot of the credit as he tossed the ball for 173 yards and three TDs. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 17, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Booker T. Washington (13th in the power rankings) and Columbus (10th). Booker T. Washington will be strutting in after a win while Columbus will be stumbling in from a defeat. We'll see if Booker T. Washington can add another positive mark to its record or if Columbus can shake off its loss and take the spring out of Booker T. Washington's step.
