Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Manchester

It's playoff time, and Manchester had no trouble coming through when it counted. They enjoyed a cozy 54-36 win over the Tipton Blue Devils on Saturday. The victory was familiar territory for the Squires, who have now won five games in a row.

Manchester's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Betten led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. Betten's big performance that afternoon made it 21 games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tallon Torpy, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 18 points and six rebounds.

Manchester was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tipton only nine assists.

Tipton's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Quigley, who posted 12 points and five boards. Grady Carpenter was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Manchester's win bumped their record up to 23-2. As for Tipton, the loss snapped their winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 19-7 record.

Coming up, Manchester will challenge Jimtown at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Jimtown will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Manchester surely won't give up without a fight. Tipton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
