Softball Recap: Newton Falls Comes Up Short

Newton Falls extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 3-9. They came up short against the LaBrae Vikings, falling 11-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

As for LaBrae, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

For LaBrae's part, Riley Rowe made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Rowe has posted since back in April of 2025. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off three home runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Mariah Jones was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Leah DeArmitt was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Newton Falls will head out to take on East at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. East has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.83 runs per game on average), something Newton Falls will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for LaBrae, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-0 win against Harding on the 24th.
