Baseball Recap: Galax Takes a Loss

Galax extended their losing streak to ten on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-14. They lost 13-6 to the Fort Chiswell Pioneers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Maroon Tide of the 12-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Cayden Underwood made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Trey Markham was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

As for Fort Chiswell, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

On Fort Chiswell's side, Owen Jackson made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Jackson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Galax is set to challenge their familiar foe Grayson County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Fort Chiswell will take on rival Auburn at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pioneers 2.9, the Eagles 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
