Football Recap: Walnut Ridge Takes a Loss

Walnut Ridge scored first but ultimately less than Newport in their game on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 32-16 to the Greyhounds. The matchup marked the Bobcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Jace Blake threw for 37 yards on five of 11 attempts. On the ground, Jasper Callahan rushed for 69 yards.

Luke Reynolds was nothing short of spectacular for Newport: he rushed for 82 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries, and also threw for 63 yards and one touchdown on only six passes. That's the most rushing yards Reynolds has posted since back in October of 2024. Nemo Crite helped out on the ground, rushing for 80 yards.

This is the second loss in a row for Walnut Ridge and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Newport, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2.

That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Blake and Grayson Harkey. Meanwhile, Newport will take on rival Hoxie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
