Basketball Game Preview: Newport Wildcats vs. Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts

The Newport Wildcats will take on the Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Newport comes in on four and Lloyd Memorial on 14.

Newport proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 20) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Holy Cross 50-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Indians since January 19, 2019.

Yamil Rondon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6-for-11 en route to 20 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Starks, who posted eight points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Lloyd Memorial didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Ryle on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 51-46 victory.

Lloyd Memorial pushed their record up to 25-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 22.9 points. As for Newport, their victory bumped their record up to 19-10.

Newport couldn't quite get it done against Lloyd Memorial in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 as they fell 59-52. Can Newport avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
