Softball Recap: West Springfield Spartans vs. Hayfield Hawks
If West Springfield was riding high fresh off their 8-2 takedown of West Potomac last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The West Springfield Spartans took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hayfield Hawks on Wednesday. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in June of 2021.
Clara Sutton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Muten, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4.
West Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Hayfield, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1.
Looking ahead, West Springfield will be playing in front of their home fans against Fairfax at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hayfield, they will challenge Justice at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give Hayfield their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
