Baseball Recap: Breese Central Comes Up Short

Breese Central dropped their record down to 10-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the New Athens Yellow Jackets by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cougars have suffered since March 22nd.

As for New Athens, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-5. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

For New Athens' part, the result came thanks to Bobby Casey's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. Casey has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, New Athens saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brendan Phillips, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
