Basketball Recap: Briyanna Miles Key Part of a Team Effort in Rattlers Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Dunnellon, Belleview was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They managed a 45-39 win over the Mount Dora Hurricanes. The Rattlers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hurricanes, too.

Belleview's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Briyanna Miles, who went 10 for 24 on her way to 20 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Haleigh Irwin, who posted eight points and 15 rebounds.

Belleview smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Mount Dora lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Amelia Kate Walker, who earned nine points. Walker continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Meralis Garcia, who had eight points.

Belleview pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.3 points per game. As for Mount Dora, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Belleview wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 43-7 victory against Ocala Christian on the 13th. As for Mount Dora, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on East Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
