Basketball Game Preview: Wethersfield Flying Geese vs. Annawan Braves/Bravettes

Wethersfield hasn't had much luck against Annawan recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wethersfield Flying Geese will face off against the Annawan Braves/Bravettes at 6:00 p.m.

Last Thursday, Wethersfield was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to Abingdon/Avon.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Annawan had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 55-43 win over ROWVA/Galva/Williamsfield on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Braves/Bravettes.

Wethersfield better keep an eye on Bella VanOpdorp. She was instrumental in Annawan's win, putting up 34 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which VanOpdorp has scored at least a third of Annawan's points. Paige Sierens was another key player, scoring seven points.

Annawan's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-19. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points over those games. As for Wethersfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 24-5.

Everything came up roses for Wethersfield against Annawan in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 58-25 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wethersfield since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
